Comparing & Measuring
Grade Level: 1st
Who's taller? What's longer? Young students love making comparisons. This hands-on science kit provides a solid foundation for understanding 2 important concepts: measurement is based on comparing; and using standard units helps people work with and communicate size comparisons effectively. Students use various measuring tools—life-size cutouts of their bodies, adding machine paper, coffee stirrers, pencils, Unifix® cubes, and more—in a range of activities, all of which prepare them for future formal measuring in units such as inches and centimeters.Part of the Science and Technology for Children® curriculum, this unit is aligned with the National Science Education Standards and offers complete hands-on instruction. Unit Kit comes with a Teacher's Guide and materials needed for a class of 30 students to complete the unit in about 8 weeks. Refurbishment Set replenishes kit consumables.
