Most children have observed ice melting on a hot day. This hands-on unit lets students investigate physical and chemical changes that affect their daily lives. Students explore changes in state, changes involving mixtures, and changes that take place quickly or over time. Unit activities also allow students to separate mixtures through methods such as chromatography, and students begin to recognize the characteristics of chemical reactions.

Part of the Science and Technology for Children® curriculum, this unit is aligned with the National Science Education Standards and offers complete hands-on instruction. Unit Kit comes with a Teacher's Guide and materials needed for a class of 30 students to complete the unit in about 8 weeks. Refurbishment Set replenishes kit consumables.
