Teacher Leaders: Teachers Leading Teachers To a New Paradigm

The Beckman Teacher Leader Program was established to provide leadership experiences and training for teachers from throughout Orange County. Teachers are selected by competitive application based on the roles they perform in their districts and their commitment to science education. Of the 25 school districts in Orange County that service elementary school children, 19 (81%) have sent teachers through the Beckman Science Teacher Leader Program.

 

Responsibilities of teacher leaders in the Beckman@Science program are to:

-Provide expert hands-on, inquiry-based science instruction in the classroom
-Provide leadership in professional development and conduct workshops for teachers
-Advocate hands-on, inquiry-based science
-Mentor and coach other teachers in hands-on, inquiry-based science
-Serve on district committees to select science curriculum materials
-Serve as grade-level science leaders
