Data Elements
On the Faculty Mentor Summary Data Sheet please provide the following data for each Faculty Mentor. The mentor selected for each Beckman Scholar must be from this list and must remain the scholar’s mentor for the duration of the scholar’s term:
1. Home department of faculty mentor: (1) = biological sciences; (2) = chemistry, biochemistry; and (3) = other (specifiy).
2. Number of years in present tenure-track appointment at applicant university/college.
3. Number of undergraduates currently mentored in research project work performed in faculty member's lab(s).
4. Since 2001, number of undergraduates mentored who performed research work in faculty member's lab(s).
5. Since 2001, estimated average period of time spent by individual mentored, undergraduates performing research project work in faculty member's lab(s):
(a) = 0 - 9 months; (b) = 10 - 18 months; (c) = 19 or more months.
6. Since 2001, number of peer-reviewed undergraduate journal articles, published or in press (excluding abstracts).
7. Since 2001, number of undergraduate co-authors of peer reviewed articles in research journals published or in press (excluding abstracts).
8. Since 2001, number of mentored undergraduate research students who have presented research papers/posters at off-campus regional or national professional meetings.
9. Current annualized external support for faculty mentor's research project(s) (in thousands of dollars).
10. Since 2001, average annualized external support for faculty mentor's research projects (in thousands of dollars).
11. Current annualized internal support provided by home institution for faculty mentor's research projects (including faculty mentor's summer research salary, undergraduate student stipends, research supplies, special research instrumentation, "competitive" internal grants and excluding faculty mentor's academic year salary and utilities costs) (in thousands of dollars).
* Data provided in this summary table as well as all other information and data presented in this application will be held in the strictest confidence by members of the Beckman Scholars Program Advisory Panel and representatives and personnel of the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation.
Important Note: The Beckman Scholars Program encourages the participation of junior faculty teacher/scholars as well as more senior teacher/scholar colleagues as faculty mentors. The program's interpretation of the above data, as well as the evaluations of curriculum vitae for such faculty members, will take their junior status into consideration.
