Cyclic Voltammetry and the Use of Phthalocyanines and Ferrocene in the Detection of Glucose Jill Pinter Using a technique called cyclic voltammetry, the electron transfer mediator ferrocene (Fc) is immobilized into the tetraaminophthalocyanine (TAPc) ligand during electropolymerization. The optimum number of cycles of electropolymerization is 6 cycles, and the optimum amount of Fc is 0.0021 g. Glucose oxidase (Gox), an enzyme, is applied to the TAPc/Fc polymeric film to produce an enzyme electrode. In solution, glucose reacts with Gox, reducing it and giving the electrons to Fc. Electrons are transferred from the Fc to the electrode, giving a signal for the detection of glucose. A calibration curve for glucose concentration was obtained using a technique called square wave voltammetry yielding an equation that relates peak current to glucose concentration. |
