Sunny and dry. The U.S. National Weather Service forecasts temperatures from the mid 80's to the 90's for Orange County in July.

California dress is very casual. For your free time, women may prefer sundresses or shorts. Men may wear shorts and short-sleeved shirts. Light sweater/jacket might be necessary for eveningwear. Jackets and ties are sometimes preferable for better restaurants; call ahead. Dress for the symposium is business casual. Friday evening's reception and buffet dinner will be casual. For Saturday evening's sit-down dinner a jacket and tie/business attire dress is appropriate.

The Foundation will pay for hotel accommodations for the duration of the symposium only. Check in time is 4 p.m. Your room may not be ready prior to this time, but the hotel will hold your luggage if you arrive early. Check-out time is Sunday, 12 noon.

The Arnold and Mabel Beckman Center of the National Academies of Sciences and Engineering is located is located in Irvine, California, approximately five minutes traveling time from the Orange County/John Wayne Airport, and ten minutes from the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel. Shuttles will be provided by the Beckman Foundation for limited travel to and from the Beckman Center on Friday and Saturday.

Sutton Place Hotel provides a complimentary shuttle to the hotel from Orange County Airport. A phone is provided in the luggage claim area for contacting the hotel. Directions are given on how to call for shuttle service from the hotel. They will inform you of pick up time.

If you fly into Los Angeles Airport/LAX, Ontario Airport or Long Beach, it is recommended that you use SuperShuttle. You will need to call and make a reservation at least 24 hours in advance of your arrival. Call (714) 517-6600.

When you arrive at the airport call the shuttle service for pick up time (this should only be a few minutes). You will wait outside in the area designated for shuttles.

All airline reservations must be secured through the Foundation's travel agent, "All Direct Travel Services, Inc.", at least 30 days prior to traveling. Airline tickets secured by any other means are NOT REIMBURSABLE. Only the most direct round-trip and reasonable coach fare to the Orange County/L.A. Area will be paid for by the Foundation unless prior approval is given by the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation. If you are driving to the symposium, parking at the Beckman Center is free.

Thursday evening, following the reception in the Bistrot Terrasse, we will gather at the Calypso Poolside - Third Floor at the Sutton Place Hotel for an informal buffet dinner. Friday evening a sit-down dinner will be held in the Deauville North & Central at the hotel. Spouses/guests are invited to Friday and Saturday's dinners, compliments of the Beckman Foundation.

Due to space limitations, spouses/guests are not invited to the actual symposium.
